The Hidden Dangers in Smelling Great
"Secret Chemicals" in your perfume?
As if the 3,100 stock chemical ingredients found in popular perfumes weren't bad enough, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and EWG found that there are 38 "secret chemicals" in your favorite fragrances1. These secret ingredients are not mentioned on the perfumes' labels, but they are there, they are unregulated, and many of them have yet to be researched for safety. Among the hidden chemicals there are some associated with hormone disruption, allergic reactions, asthma, headaches, skin conditions, and even human tissue damage1.
But the potential harm doesn't end on your skin. The ingredients of perfumes and colognes wash down the drain, through sewers, and eventually join our water sources. The presence of HHCB, the most common fragrance chemical, has been found in lake sediments since 19792.
The fascination with smelling like your favorite celebrity comes at a cost. The ingredients are far from Nature, and they do not lead toward a healthier you and a healthier Earth.
